Take good notes
Preventing plagiarism
Writing your paper

We warned you about this earlier, in 4.2, but it is so important to take good notes that we will repeat ourselves. You cannot follow the rules in using and citing information from a source if you don't have the right information in your notes. So, long before you draft, you have to make sure that your notes do the following:

✵ Record all bibliographic data for each source.

✵ Clearly distinguish between your words and those of the source.

✵ Correctly transcribe each quotation, including punctuation.

✵ Record page numbers for each quotation and paraphrase in your notes.
