Collecting materials for a writing assignment starts with having a clear view of your readers and your scope. As you begin to gather information, ask:

· What material do I already have that I can use?

· What additional data would I like to have?

· What are the best sources for finding more material?

· How much time can I devote to research?

· What type of startling facts or stories should I target, which will attract attention and support my purpose?
