Governments, institutions, and trade associations often prescribe document templates. Just a few examples include:

· Securities and exchange commission reports, such as the Form 10-K and Form 10-Q specified by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)

· Medical, drug, and food reports, such as those prescribed by the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

· Environmental reports, such as the environmental assessment (EA) and environmental impact statement (EIS) formats authorized by the US National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

· Resource reporting guidelines, such as the National Instrument (NI) 43-101 guideline specified by the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA) for companies reporting oil, natural gas, and mineral resources
