Keep your readers in mind as you edit. Keep asking, “Will they understand this?”
Keep sentences and paragraphs short and effective.
Use short words, but do not slavishly avoid long words and technical language if they provide precision and clarity.
Subordinate less important information.
Strive to eliminate passive voice.
Make positive assertions.
Use parallel construction when presenting similar ideas.
Eliminate confusing pronouns, emotional expressions, bias, and misused words.
Keep related words together.
Practice. The more you write and rewrite, the stronger your skills will become.
