Booher's Rules of Business Grammar - Dianna Booher 2009
A subject matter worth discussing
Reminders about redundancies
REDUNDANT NOUNS
Another redundant layer of onion skin involves pairing two nouns or a noun and an adjective to convey the same idea. We can discuss either the subject or the matter—your preference. But it would be the same two cents’ worth.
Another example: “Our executive will visit the factories in the summer months.” Why don’t they just visit “in the summer”? Is it possible to visit in the summer years?
Memory tip
If the phrase seems to roll off your tongue, consider that a clue. Stop and chop.
