Perfection is a headspace - Ride your wave to the end - Apply

Perfection is a headspace
Ride your wave to the end
Apply

Please don’t Tweak during the Apply phase. Please don’t go for perfection.

The problem with perfection is that it’s a figment of your imagination. There’s no such thing.

What you consider perfection and what I consider perfection are two different things. But I’ll go a step further. What you consider perfection today and what you will consider perfection at this time next year are also two different things!

Now, this is not permission to be sloppy. Your job is to communicate your idea as efficiently and effectively as possible.

But to strive for perfection — especially during the Apply phase — is an exercise in futility. Absolutely pointless.

Give yourself a strong, solid direction, and let yourself go.

That’s all you need during this phase.

Get your words on the page. Tap into the flow. Harness the lightning bolt. Forget quality — go for quantity.

And smile as you write.

When I was doing radio and voice-over work as a teenager, I got some advice from the station manager at the radio station I worked for. It’s advice I’ve never forgotten, and I believe it applies across the board to life itself.

She said, “When you speak into the microphone, always smile. It brings a smile to your words that listeners can physically hear.” And it’s true! It brightens the sound of your voice.

It brightens your writing, too.

Enjoy writing crap. And write it fast.
