Exercise 1. Prepositions. Complete each of the sentences below with a suitable preposition.

1. There is a woman ... the house.

2. There are leaves ... the tree.

3. The man is ... the house.

4. The dog is ... the tree.

5. The bird is ... the house.

6. The girl is ... the house.

7. The flowers are growing ... the door.

8. The flowers are ... the house.

9. The flowers are ... the girl and the boy.

10. The roots of the tree are ... the ground.

Exercise 2. Coordinating conjunctions. Use and or but to join the pairs of sentences below into single sentences.

Example:

John is here.

I am here.

John and I are here.

1. I see the girls.

I don’t see the boys.

2. Look upstairs.

Look downstairs.

3. He brought a pen.

He brought some ink.

4. I study English.

John studies English.

5. Jerry ate bread.

Jerry ate butter.

Exercise 3. Past Tense. Change the sentences below to the simple past tense. Some of the verbs are regular, some irregular.
