a) Permission or possibility in the past
He said I might borrow his book.
We canceled our plans to go out, because it looked as though it might snow.
b) Possibility, present or future (This is the same as one of the meanings of may, and, indeed, many speakers of English use these words interchangeably. The possibility is often thought of as somewhat more remote when might is used, but not necessarily so.)
I don’t allow my child to go downtown on the bus alone, because she might get lost.
