The writing section contains two essay questions—descriptive (write about a personal experience) and analytical (analyze a statement or situation).

Descriptive (personal experience)

In this type of essay, you must write about a personal experience based on the assigned task. This type of writing informs the reader about a real or imaginary story. It draws from your personal experiences, observations, or imagination. Your goal is to present an essay that stays focused on the topic, is organized, provides supporting examples, exhibits language fluency, and uses the correct conventions of English. Remember, fiction is acceptable. This type of essay is also called a narrative essay.

Analytical (analyze a statement)

In this type of essay, you must analyze a statement (or scenario) about a general topic and then organize, develop, and write about whether you agree or disagree with the statement. Your goal is to present an essay that addresses the topic, shows logical organization, provides relevant examples, exhibits language fluency, and uses the correct conventions of English. This type of essay is also called an expository essay.
