Taking the computer-based CBEST
Introduction to the CBEST: California basic educational skills test

The computer-based CBEST is offered at many locations. Like the paper-based test, the computer-based test contains questions that test your knowledge in reading, writing, and math. All of the material covered in this book—subject matter reviews, the practice test questions and explanations, and the practice essays—will help to prepare you for both the paper-based and computer-based tests. If you are taking the computer-based test, it is important that you practice questions in a computer-generated format. An online stimulated practice test is available at www.ctcexams.nesinc.com.

Advantages of taking the computer-based CBEST:

· Numerous test dates are available because appointments can be scheduled throughout the year (the paper-based test is administered about six times per year on specified dates).

· You are allowed time to review a computer tutorial program.

· Your unofficial scores for reading and math are available immediately after the test (the score for the writing section is available after it is evaluated).

· Your answers are recorded electronically, which can often reduce the chance of human error in posting your written responses.

Computer-Based Tutorial

Immediately before taking the computer-based test, you will be led through a tutorial that will show you how to read and answer the questions for each section on the CBEST. You do not need advanced computer skills to take the computer-based test. To find out what to expect when you take the computer-based test, visit www.ctcexams.nesinc.com.
