Your writing center is your second-best resource to receive feedback on your writing; your professor is first. Unlike your professor, your writing center is more available, and you can visit as often as you want. If you plan well and complete sections of your paper before the deadline, you can have almost all parts of your paper reviewed.

College writing centers, most of which belong to a national affiliation of college writing centers, are staffed with trained tutors who are conveniently available to help you with your writing. You can easily find a tutor trained in your content area, APA formatting and citations, and academic writing style. You can schedule weekly visits for the weeks prior to your submission deadline. Some writing centers offer an online review where you can email your paper and receive specific feedback.

A plan for coordinating your weekly visits includes discussing your topic selection and thesis statement, the development of your argument, uses of your sources, and the reference page. Complete your paper before the deadline, and you’ll have time to discuss sections such as the title page, abstract, table of contents, and appendices. You’ll also have time to address improvements. After each writing center session, list questions that you want to ask in the following sessions.
