Ten tips for high-scoring research papers
The parts of ten

Your reference list is your primary show-and-tell of the quality of your research. It says, “I am a serious scholar, and I value the rules of scholarship displaying my research.” A model reference includes a ratio of primary, secondary, and popular sources appropriate for the topic. A model list also includes appropriate primary sources such as artifacts, diary entries, and photographs.

A model reference list also includes impeccable formatting, beginning with a hanging indentation, the first visual sign of an APA scholarly reference list. Verify that the word “Reference” is bold and centered at the top of a new page, and verify differences between “reference” and “annotated bibliography.”

Another point of detail for reference formatting is punctuation. Review punctuation such as that for the following name elements in reference items: Smith, A. B., & Jones, R. S. Create your models for reference items that are common to the types of sources you are using. Refer to Chapter 12 for more about formatting your reference list.
