Writing to Persuade: How to Bring People Over to Your Side - Trish Hall 2019

Acknowledgments

I owe thanks to many people, but first and most important to my editor, Robert Weil. He was confident enough to take a chance on this book and kind enough not to give up on me when the first draft was flawed. I’ve never encountered such a dedicated, smart, committed editor.

Then there is Alice Martell, my agent. In all the years I have known her, this is only my second book, so she’s hardly getting rich off me. She is a steadfast friend and adviser.

The idea for this book came from Arthur Brooks, one of the most enjoyable writers I have ever edited. When I was whining to Arthur that I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, post Op-Ed, he suggested that I do this.

I am indebted to Andy Rosenthal, who gave me such an amazing opportunity. To all of my colleagues at the Times Op-Ed department: I will never stop being grateful for what you taught me and for how satisfying those five years were.

Finally, I want to thank my husband, Larry Wolhandler; our daughter, Hally Wolhandler; and the many great friends and relatives who made it possible for me to have a happy life.
