Ethical considerations
Job materials

Tailoring your job materials does not mean exaggerating your abilities or past jobs. It means sending the right materials for the right position, not altering history. Even simple adjustments, like referring to your host position at a restaurant as a “client services manager” distorts the truth and implies an unproven level of skill. Your dishonesty will eventually be exposed when it is time to do the work.

See Chapter 2 for more on ethics in the workplace.

Connor does not supervise anyone in his current job, but he knows leadership skills will make his résumé stand out. Rather than counting the times he has kept his uncle’s children from destroying the office as supervisory experience, he highlights his ability to work as part of a team and his leadership within his volunteer groups.
