And so... - Attach your lightning rod - Focus

Writing FAST - Jeff Bollow 2012

And so...
Attach your lightning rod
Focus

This chapter is about creating your Focus Plan.

If you follow these instructions, you’ll have an incredibly detailed roadmap for your writing. And this is the cornerstone of the FAST System.

When you want to write FAST, you need to know where you’re going. That way, you stay on track while you’re writing.

As with everything else, don’t get stuck on this. Yes, you’ll absolutely need to devote time to this step — the more, the better (to a point).

But if your end result is clear, it’s also possible to chunk out each chapter, and write as you go.

For example, as I wrote this book, I realized I didn’t put enough detail into my Focus Plan. So when I got to each chapter, I would take ten or fifteen minutes Focusing it. So I’d Focus, then Apply. Then get to the next chapter. Then Focus, then Apply. Then the next chapter... and so on.

Remember, these are not rules to slow you down and make your writing rigid. It’s a system and methods to speed everything up, and free you.

By seeing your project laid out in front of you, with a Power Grid hovering over it... by imagining that brain storm over your work with lightning shooting out in all directions... by seeing that lightning rod attached to the Grid to harness your imagination...

By seeing, and grasping, and feeling the power of that, you can’t help but unleash the power of your mind.

See?

I knew you’d love it.
